They Are Back!!!

20th April 2016
I decided to nip down to Babcary Meadows on Monday lunchtime to check out the orchids. It is a brisk walk for me to check the site in the hour lunch that I have. As I entered the site there was a sea of green and yellow, grass and cowslips. The orchid I was hoping to see is tiny and can be difficult to spot until you get your eye in. Having visited this site for a few years now I knew where to look and....

...I am pleased to say that the orchids are back and the 2016 season is underway!

The first orchid of the year for me is the Green Winged Orchid. There are a few sites in Somerset where the little but colourful orchid can be found. My local site is Babcary Meadows a Somerset Wildlife Trust site.

On Tuesday evening the weather was good enough to go back to Babcary Meadows but this time with the camera. There was a little bit of a breeze but nothing that a fast shutter speed could not cope with. It was good to get back out with the camera, macro lens and tripod.

I spent a wonderful hour photographing the Green Winged Orchids and the Cowslips.

And as I was leaving I was treated to a kingfisher flying along the River Cary and it landed on a reed about 6 feet from me, just for a second and then it was off!
